Is Madden Too Scripted?

Tell me if this sounds familiar. You are playing head to head online, you are winning by a few touchdowns, seems to be going your way… until your 99 rated catch receiver drops a wide… open… pass. Then your QB throws it ten yards over your wide open receiver on the next play only to have it fly directly into the closest defenders hands.

Your lead is being taken away by random things outside your control. I can’t tell you how many games I have played where even from early in the game my team has a case of the fumbles, wide open drops (over and over), throws that sail directly over my receiver ten plus yards into the defender as if that was my target all along.

I know some of you may say, “get good.” Maybe you have a point, however… how come I can blow out a player that is ranked way higher than me and then in the next get blown out by someone who has a horrible win/loss record and is still unranked?

Why is it that when I get on a good win streak, I play someone and from the beginning kickoff, the opponents rush gets in right away? If they run a zero blitz no one can get open (a 89 speed defender should not be running step for step with a 96 speed). Or, why is one teams defence closing on the ball so much faster (a far lower speed should not catch up to a faster player)? Or why when I finally complete a pass (had like 2 drops in a row with no defender around) for a first down, the first defender comes along and immediately causes my receiver to fumble?

I believe that the reason is that Madden has been for years working in scripted gameplay for the AI to make the game more exciting, close, competitive! Because whatever Madden is doing is working according to their pocket books because we all say every year… this is the last Madden I’m gonna buy. Then come August, we are hoping this year will be different.

Here’s to insanity… doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. We all find out soon if this year is the year Madden can be great again.
